March is Meeting Month

It’s March… and that means it is time for annual meetings and town voting!  Voters will decide on operating budgets and other major issues for the year at these three meetings and on town voting day. The people who attend the meetings make the decisions; this is a great chance to become informed and to participate in the issues and spending directly affecting your town.

David Tencza to Discuss Opioid Abuse and the Future of Criminal Justice Reform

David Tencza, a prosecutor with the Hillsborough County Attorney's Office, is a member of the Drug Court currently operating in Nashua. He will be speaking on the Drug Court model and the future of criminal justice reform In Hillsborough County. Tencza will address the Hollis Democrats on Tuesday, March 22, at 7:00 p.m. at the Lawrence Barn in Hollis. Pizza will be available at 6:30 p.m.

Meeting Notes from March 28 Caucus

Important dates:

Hollis School District Annual Meeting - Tuesday March 7, 2017 - 7pm - at Hollis Brookline Middle School

Town Election and Town Meeting Results

In the Town Election 483 out of 5,900 registered voters cast ballots.
In the Town Meeting 217 out of 5,900 registered voters voted.

The Town Election had no contested seats.

In  the Hollis Brookline Coop School  District Election Elizabeth Brown was elected to the School Board.
(Other seats were uncontested)

In the Hollis School District Election Laurie Miller was elected to the School Board.
(Other seats were uncontested)

On the Zoning Ordinance ballot all the amendments passed.

In the Town Meeting all the articles passed.

NH Specific Medicaid Solution

There has been much talk in the news this past week about a compromise reached in the Senate to expand health coverage to NH low income adults using federal dollars. The process to reach this compromise has been intense, but an example of NH legislators working across party lines to reach a solution that will work for New Hampshire.

Hollis Democrats March 20th Meeting

The Common Core State Standards will be the topic of the Hollis Democrat’s March 20th meeting, and Bill Duncan will be the featured speaker.  The Common Core State Standards are the educational curriculum standards that are being implemented in school districts across New Hampshire, including Hollis and Brookline.  The Common Core standards have raised controversy in many districts, including ours.

Bill Duncan has followed the decision-making and controversies surrounding this important educational initiative from the beginning. He offers a knowledgeable perspective on its advocates and opponents, and can answer many questions surrounding the Common Core standards.  There is lots of great info on this topic on his website, anhpe.org.  Join us at 6 pm on Thursday March 20th at the Hollis Library for social time, with the meeting starting at  7 pm.

Support Warrant Article 18 at Hollis Town Meeting

Voters at the Hollis Annual Town Meeting, 7 pm on March 12 at the Hollis Brookline High School, will have the opportunity to vote to support an amendment to the US Constitution.  This vote urges our state politicians: that Hollis supports limiting the influence of money in politics.

Hollis Democrats Hold Caucus in March

The Hollis Democrats are holding their state Democratic caucus for town officers on Tuesday, March 24, in the Lawrence Barn. Open positions include chair, vice-chair, treasurer and secretary. Interested candidates are welcome to run. You can make a difference in local politics! The caucus begins at 7 p.m. and voting will start shortly after, followed by an update on town voting.
